STD symptoms in men differ from those in women. Mainly due to the structural anatomical differences between the male and female genitalia.

STD symptoms in men are frequently:

  • Painful urination and discharge from the penis.
  • Multiple painful penile blisters and multiple painful penile ulcers with painful inguinal lymph nodes.
  • Single painless penile ulcer.
  • Fleshy cauliflower penile growths.
  • Fever and generalized rash.

Painful urination and discharge from the penis are symptoms of gonorrhoea and chlamydia.

  • For gonorrhea, they usually occur 1 day to 2 weeks after infection. 90% of infected men have symptoms.
  • For chlamydia, they usually occur 1 to 3 weeks after infection. 50% of infected men have symptoms.

Multiple painful penile blisters which burst to form multiple painful penile ulcers are usually symptoms of genital herpes which is caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). They occur 1 day to 2 weeks after infection.

Single painless penile ulcer is usually a symptom of syphilis. It occurs 9 to 90 days after infection.

Fleshy cauliflower penile growths are usually genital warts which is usually caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They occur three to six months after infection.

Fever and generalized rash are usually caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. They occur 2 to 4 week after infection.

No symptoms do not mean there is no infection, as STD symptoms occur in only a proportion of infected individuals. Therefore, not having any symptoms does not mean that there is no infection. The only way to be certain is to get STD Testing done.
