Travelling to Angola from Singapore. Vaccinations and medications required.
All travellers
Make sure you are up-to-date with your routine vaccinations before you travel to any destination. Some vaccines may also be required for travel to Angola. These vaccines include:
Get your Mumps, Measles, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine before going to Angola. These vaccines may have been given during childhood, but over time, your immunity may have weakened, thus making you susceptible to being infected. Immunity testing is available, and if the levels are found to be non-protective, then the vaccination should be given.
Get your Tetanus, Diphtheria, and acellular Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine before going to Angola. During childhood, the Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (DTP) vaccine may have been given, but over time, your immunity may have weakened. Shim Clinic recommends that every 10 years, you should repeat the adult version, which is the Tdap vaccine.
Get your Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine before going to Angola. Particularly for those who recall never having been infected with Chickenpox in the past. Varicella immunity testing is available. And if levels are found to be not protective, then the vaccination should be given.
Get your Polio vaccine before going to Angola. Although this vaccine may have been given during childhood, but over time, your immunity may have weakened, thus making you susceptible to being infected.
Get your annual Influenza (Flu) vaccine before going to Angola. Every 6 months, the World Health Organisation (WHO) issues new Influenza vaccine composition recommendations. As the recommended composition may change with each season, Shim Clinic recommends that you should keep yourself updated with the latest vaccine.
Most travellers
Get these travel vaccines and medications, because there is a risk of these diseases when visiting Angola
Shim Clinic recommends this vaccine, because you can get Hepatitis A through contaminated food or water in Angola, regardless of where you are eating or staying.
You can get typhoid through contaminated food or water in Angola. Shim Clinic recommends this vaccine for most travellers, especially if you are staying with friends or relatives, visiting smaller cities or rural areas, or if you are an adventurous eater.
Some travellers
Shim Clinic recommends these vaccines and medications when travelling to Angola based on, where you are going, how long you are staying, and what you will be doing, and from what country you will be travelling from.
You can get Hepatitis B through sexual contact, contaminated needles, and blood products, so Shim Clinic recommends this vaccine if you might have sex with a new partner, get a tattoo or piercing, or have any medical procedures in Angola.
When travelling to Angola, you should avoid mosquito bites to prevent Malaria. You may need to take prescription medicine before, during, and after your trip to Angola to prevent Malaria, depending on your travel plans, such as where you are going, when you are travelling, and if you are spending a lot of time outdoors or sleeping outside. Shim Clinic can help you decide which medicine is right for you, and also talk to you about other steps you can take to prevent Malaria.
Rabies is not a major risk to most travellers to Angola. Shim Clinic recommends rabies vaccine particularly for these groups:
- Travellers involved in outdoor and other activities in remote areas that put them at risk for animal bites (such as adventure travel and caving).
- People who would be working with or around animals (such as veterinarians, wildlife professionals and researchers).
- People who are taking long trips, or moving to Angola.
- Children, because they tend to play with animals, might not report bites, and are more likely to have animal bites on their head and neck.
Angola is a country with Yellow Fever Transmission in whole or in part. All travellers are required to have a valid International Certificate of Vaccination for yellow fever, if they have been or have passed through Angola.
