Premature ejaculation treatment is frequently done with the prescription of premature ejaculation medication which are usually selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Dapoxetine (Priligy®)

Premature ejaculation criteria stated in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, text revision (DSM-IV-TR) is as follows:

  1. persistent and recurrent ejaculation with minimal sexual stimulation before, on, or shortly after penetration before the person wishes it;
  2. marked distress or interpersonal difficulty; and
  3. not exclusively due to direct effects.

CONCLUSIONS: Overall, there is weak and inconsistent evidence regarding the effectiveness of psychological interventions for the treatment of premature ejaculation. Three of the four included randomised controlled studies of psychotherapy for PE reported our primary outcome (Improvement in IELT), and the majority have a small sample size.
