Erectile dysfunction treatment is frequently done with the prescription of erectile dysfunction drugs which are usually phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors like:

Erectile dysfunction may be assessed with the international index of erectile function (IIEF-5) a.k.a. sexual health inventory for men (SHIM), and an erectile dysfunction diagnosis made:

The IIEF-5 questionnairea

aThe IIEF-5 score is the sum of the ordinal responses to the five items; thus, the score can range from 5 to 25.
ED severity: severe (5-7), moderate (8-11), mild to moderate (12-16), mild (17-21), and no ED (22-25)

Inhibitory effects of phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitor, ---------, on mechanosensitive bladder afferent nerve activities of the rat, and on acrolein‐induced hyperactivity of these nerves
Wed, 16 May 2012 14:16:43 +0100 | BJU International
CONCLUSION• Our study shows, using selective unifibre potential measurement, that systemic administration of --------- reduces mechanosensitive afferent activities of both Aδ‐ and C‐fibres elicited by bladder distension in the rat, and also that --------- has an inhibitory effect on the increased activities of both fibres induced by intravesical acrolein instillation. Adenoviral short hairpin RNA therapy targeting phosphodiesterase 5a relieves cardiac remodeling and dysfunction following myocardial infarction
Tue, 15 May 2012 04:00:00 +0100 | AJP: Heart and Circulatory Physiology
We previously showed that treatment with ---------, a long-acting phosphodiesterase-5a (PDE5a) inhibitor, effectively prevented adverse left ventricular (LV) remodeling of the infarcted heart. We hypothesized that short-hairpin RNA (shRNA) therapy targeting PDE5a would simulate the effects of pharmacological intervention for treatment of postinfarction LV remodeling and dysfunction. Experimental model of myocardial infarction was developed in female mice by permanent ligation of left coronary artery. Immediately after that, an adenoviral vector encoding for shRNA sequence targeting PDE5a (Ad-shPDE5a) was injected intramyocardially, which specifically inhibited PDE5a in the heart. Four weeks later, Ad-shPDE5a treated mice showed significant mitigation of the left ventricle (LV) dilatation a...

PDE5 inhibitors, ---------- and ----------, reverse multidrug resistance by inhibiting the efflux function of MRP7 (ABCC10) transporter
Fri, 11 May 2012 04:00:00 +0100 | Cancer Science
SummaryPhosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors are widely used in the treatment of male erectile dysfunction and in improving the breathing efficiency in pulmonary hypertension. Recently, several groups have evaluated the ability of PDE5 inhibitors for their anticancer activities. Previously, we have shown that ----------, ---------- and --------- could reverse P‐glycoprotein (P‐gp, ABCB1)‐mediated multidrug resistance (MDR). In the present study, we determined whether these PDE5 inhibitors have the potential to reverse multidrug resistance protein 7 (MRP7, ABCC10)‐mediated MDR. We found that ---------- and ---------- dose‐dependently enhanced the sensitivity of MRP7‐transfected HEK293 cells to paclitaxel, docetaxel and vinblastine, while --------- had only minimal effect. The effects of long-term administration of --------- on STZ-induced diabetic rats with erectile dysfunction via a local antioxidative mechanism.
Mon, 16 Apr 2012 04:00:00 +0100 | Asian Journal of Andrology
Authors: Chen Y, Li XX, Lin HC, Qiu XF, Gao J, Dai YT, Wang R Abstract Type 5 phosphodiesterase inhibitors (PDE5Is) are well known being effective via the nitric oxide and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (NO-cGMP) pathway and are widely used in the treatment of diabetic erectile dysfunction (ED). However, it is unclear whether other pathways may be involved in the treatment of diabetic ED with PDE5Is. The purpose of this study was to clarify the role of antioxidants in diabetic ED treatment through the long-term administration of PDE5Is. Three groups of Sprague-Dawley rats were utilized: Group N, the normal control; Group D, streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats as a control; and Group D+T, STZ-induced diabetic rats who received oral administration of --------- for 8 weeks. Ere...
